Chloride Anion Dealkalizer Systems

Ecodyne Industrial dealkalizer systems are designed and manufactured exclusively by Ecodyne Industrial. Our systems use the latest in technology and materials to efficiently remove sulfates, nitrates, and bicarbonates to reduce alkalinity in water, which is important in applications such as boiler feed water and food/beverage production. Ecodyne offers systems to meet almost any commercial and industrial treatment requirements.

Alkalinity Removal for Boilers

Chloride Anion Dealkalizers are primarily used for the removal of alkalinity from boiler feed water. The heat & pressure inside a steam boiler causes the carbonate & bicarbonate alkalinity in the feedwater to breakdown to form hydroxide ions & carbon dioxide gas. High carbonate & bicarbonate alkalinity in the feedwater is undesirable for two main reasons:

  • The more that is present, the more carbonic acid formed in the condensate & the greater the potential for corrosion, and the greater the neutralizing amine costs. Depending on the circumstances, reducing the makeup alkalinity can greatly reduce the potential for carbonic acid corrosion in the condensate return system & the associated condensate treatment costs.
  • Although a minimum level of alkalinity is desired in the boiler water for corrosion & deposit control, high levels can cause a foaming & carryover, & under certain circumstances, can contribute to caustic embrittlement. The boiler water M-Alkalinity level is typically limited less than 1000 ppm to avoid these problems. If the feedwater alkalinity is high, a high blowdown rate may be required to keep the boiler alkalinity within the desired range. Depending on the circumstances, reducing the makeup alkalinity can significantly reduce blowdown requirements & lower the fuel, water, & treatment costs.

Chloride Anion Dealkalizers will remove 90 -95% of the carbonate (CO3) and bicarbonate (HCO3) alkalinity as well as 99% of the sulfates (SO4), nitrates (NO3) and fluoride when regenerated with salt only. They will remove all of the CO2 and give slightly higher capacities when regenerated with both salt and caustic soda.

The anion resin in the dealkalizer must be protected from hardness fouling by installing a water softener up stream. A water analysis is required to provide proper sizing of the dealkalizer.

Ecodyne Industrial offers a complete line of Chloride Anion Dealkalizer systems starting at 9 up to 72 in size. The dealkalizers are offered in a single multiport valve design or valve nest design with fiberglass pressure vessels, polybond steel pressure vessels or spray lined steel pressure vessels. Caustic chemical feed pumps are offered as an option.

Chloride-anion dealkalization is usually recommended for processes that require a continuous supply of water at a low flow rate.

Ecodyne has large standard and custom Dealkalizing systems.

For larger industrial alkalinity reduction applications, Ecodye offers standard and custom systems with a full range of features and options. You get the exact Dealkalizer system you need.
